RUDE front staffer.
i just started going here a few months back. Jennifer is great. she helped me the first time i came here. but i just had an appointment and rather had Jennifer help me at the front desk. it was either Ruth or Kathy who was a little rude checking me out. it was an older lady with short hair. she threw my card at me after i paid and didn’t even print a receipt. i just ignored it and left but it really rubbed me the wrong way. other than that, vet was nice. but that lady ruining my experience.
Our first visit was amazing, the tech and the doctor that helped us were wonderful, patient and kind people. They noticed my little dog, Bunny, was afraid of new people and anxious, and they used treats and cheese, and patience to work with her.
They were able to give her a shot, look at her teeth and examine her. They were able to do all of this knowing that she is an anxious dog, because we were talking about it the entire time.
I did not know, this having been our first visit and the first time I have ever owned an anxious dog, that there should have been an "alert" placed on her file for future visits.
No one mentioned this to me and I had no way of knowing this was part of the system.
Second visit:
Bunny was supposed to have a quick tech visit for a lepto follow up.
The (different) tech walked up to Bunny and saw that she was afraid and commented to me that she was afraid.
I agreed, and asked if she would mind cutting her nails as well. She said she would, and I commented that Bunny would be scared, which is why I was asking for help.
This tech later wrote the explanation of what happened, after my request to cut her nails and trying to warn her that it would not be easy, the tech states two different times that she "didn't think anything of it".
So you're a vet tech that doesn't think anything of what pet owners try to tell you?
The tech didn't even quote me correctly in the description because she wasn't listening. That's not even close to what I said.
When she brought Bunny back to me, my poor little dog was choking, coughing and terrified.
Her collar was broken by the threads that ripped. I could not loop it back through and fix it.
It was not the most expensive collar ever, but it only would have broken with force. I'm doing leash training with Bunny as well and she still pulls, and that had not broken this collar.
She didn't make a single mention of trying to use treats as you can see.
But this tech managed to choke a 17lb dog to the point where her collar broke. And then either didn't see it clearly, or tried to lie about it.
She told me she was unable to finish cutting her nails. She asked if I would want to medicate her to calm her. I said no, and sat down to pet my dog. I was shocked and concerned about the state of my dog and that is all I was thinking of.
I was not rude, I was direct.
Her explanation was almost entirely concerned with my being accusatory and rude instead of what she did to my dog.
What do you think is going to happen when you try to forcefully hold down a dog that you already know is scared?
I was questioning what happened, as anyone would, and I was only interested in getting my dog out of there as fast as possible.
Honestly I think any sane person would have been accusatory and rude, but I was not, I was calm and quiet and wanting to leave.
I'm actually shocked that this tech was so willing to write a story about how terrible she is at dealing with people and dogs.
The doctor and the tech from our first visit were able to get a NEEDLE into Bunny and check her teeth and a couple of other things with the SAME EXACT NERVOUS DOG, without any of the hysterics that was clearly described by the tech herself from our second and final visit.
If their system requires some kind of alert, then it should have already been there.
She kept telling me there was no alert like it had anything to do with what that woman did.
How can I ask for an alert if I've never heard of it in my life?
Bunny is a sweet, curious, happy little dog who just happens to be afraid of new people and that is not her fault.
Not all of their techs are safe with dogs and the office will absolutely try to blame you for their own failings.
